For its strategic effort in establishing the Centre of Excellence in Pattern Recognition and Machine Vision with MIMOS, Universiti Tunku Abdul Rahman (UTAR) received an award of recognition from MIMOS Berhad on 4 December 2008 at Dewan Perdana Felda, Kuala Lumpur.
The award was presented by Y.B. Tuan Hj. Fadilah bin Yusof, Deputy Minister of Science, Technology and Innovation in a ceremony held in conjunction with the 2nd MIMOS Technology Preview, a three-day event which was endorsed by MOSTI and supported by MDeC, MAVCAP, PIKOM and Cradle. The event attracted technology users, service providers, product companies, domain experts and academia. Representing UTAR at the award ceremony was Prof. Dr. Ewe Hong Tat, Dean of the Faculty of Information and Communication Technology of the University.
The Centre of Excellence in Pattern Recognition and Machine Vision is a research lab jointly established by both UTAR and MIMOS to promote research activities in the areas of software-based product development.
Researchers from UTAR and MIMOS are able to work closely to produce software-based products that have the potential to be commercialised and patented at the Centre.
MIMOS Berhad is an applied research organisation that pursues exploratory and industry-driven applied research through multi-stakeholder smart partnerships with universities, research institutes, Government and industries with a focus on frontier technologies. Its research areas include cyberspace security, encryption systems, grid computing, communication technologies, micro energy, micro systems (MEMS/NEMS), advanced informatics and knowledge technology.
