At the recent ASEAN University Games, UTAR's Year 3 Biotechnology student, Kho Ai Hwee helped the women's swimming team to win gold in the 4 X 100m freestyle relay and silver in the 4 X 200m freestyle event. The team swam in a record time to secure the gold medal.
ASEAN University Games is a multi-discipline sports event in which student athletes from ASEAN universities compete for medals. The 14th ASEAN University Games was held from 11-21 December 2008 in Kuala Lumpur. Ten ASEAN countries took part and Malaysia sent in the largest number of delegates in the 22-event Games, which included athletics, archery, bowling, football, shooting, taekwondo, silat and swimming. At the end of the Games, Malaysia emerged Champions with a tally of 90 golds, 79 silvers and 47 bronzes.
Kho has been swimming since her school days and has previously represented Sarawak in Sukan Malaysia (SUKMA) four times. Since enrolling at UTAR, she has also represented the University in swimming tournaments and inter-university games.
