UTAR Student Won Best Paper Award at RICS-ISM Surveying Conference

Chong Yar Ching, a final-year student of UTAR's Bachelor of Science (Honours) degree in Quantity Surveying, won the Best Paper Award at the first surveying conference by the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS) and the Institution of Surveyors, Malaysia (ISM). The RICS - ISM Surveying Conference for Undergraduates 2009 was held on 14 March 2009 at University of Malaya, Kuala Lumpur.

Her paper was picked as the best among 16 papers presented by students from local institutions of higher learning as well as students from Hong Kong and Thailand at the Conference. The students have to deliver their respective papers for 15-20 minutes on topics of their choice in the fields of land, property or construction.

The Conference was held to serve as a platform for surveying undergraduates to share and exchange views and ideas. The objectives of the Conference included:

• Providing a forum for an open dialogue among undergraduate students in the region on contemporary issues on surveying and the environment.
• Providing undergraduate students the opportunity to network with students from other institutions as well as from other countries who have common interests and career plans.
• Generating awareness on current issues and challenges in the construction and property sector.
