Twenty students from Universiti Tunku Abdul Rahman (UTAR), Kuala
Lumpur Campus used their investment skills which they had just
learnt and won top campus prize in OSK Investment Challenge.
According to
the organiser, OSK Investment Bank Berhad (OSK), the Kuala Lumpur
Campus secured top place in the Campus category with the highest
combined portfolio value from 20 students of the campus, winning a
computer lab and equipment worth RM100,000. In addition, the 20
students each received an iPod Nano. Prize presentation ceremony was
held in a hotel in Kuala Lumpur on 14 October 2010.
The 20
students who contributed to the winning of the prize were Bong Hui
Chin, Bong Tin Long, Chew Way Jan, Chua Wei Kiang, Chuah Aik Sheng,
How Meng Teik, Lee Meng Fatt, Lee Sze Mei, Lee Yong Hong, Ling Siang
Sheng, Ng Chi Hwa, Ng Weng Chiat, Ooi Lip Khun, Sim Ken Yang, Tan
Kuen Keong, Tee Kit Siang, Teng Kai Wea, Yap Chun Liang, Yap Yee
Wen, and Yong Kok Jeng.
OSK is a
regional investment banking group which offers a wide range of
financial products and services for corporate and retail clients
such as corporate finance, treasury, derivatives and structured
products, unit trust management, asset management and Islamic
banking.
The
investment bank held a seven-week-long online stock trading
competition OSK Investment Challenge (OSKIC) from 16 August to 1
October 2010. It was opened to all students of local institutions of
higher learning. More than 29,000 participants from 592 institutions
of higher learning have registered for the competition.
For this
competition, OSK had created a system allowing participants, who
were each allocated a virtual capital of RM100,000, to trade online
based on actual real-time stock prices of Bursa Malaysia. Through
this, the participants were able to learn trading fundamentals such
as investing basics, financial objectives, risk management
strategies, market trends, etc. Prizes went to participants with the
highest portfolio values.
Other prizes
given out were the three individual prizes and the 14 weekly prizes.
UTAR Actuarial Science student Ling Siang Sheng won a weekly prize.
UTAR Perak
Campus was ranked fifth in the Campus category.
