UTAR's three faculty members from the Department of Electrical and Engineering of the Faculty of Engineering and Science received Honorary Mention for their technical application paper in the 2011 ASEAN Graphical Design System Achievement Award held by the National Instruments ASEAN in Singapore when the paper they submitted beat another 23 entries from ASEAN countries to win the title on 20 October 2011.
Mr. Chua Kein Huat, Ir. Dr. Lim Yun Seng, and Dr. Stella Morris have submitted the paper entitled 'Mitigation of Voltage Unbalance in Distribution Networks with High Penetration of Photovoltaic Systems' under the academic category and won themselves S$300 and a plaque.
Aimed at recognizing outstanding application in engineering and science, the contest required participants to make use of an NI product to produce a test, control, and measurement and automation application and then produce an original abstract and technical paper describing such use.
Previously known as the National Instruments ASEAN technical application contest, it is now rebranded as the National Instruments ASEAN Graphical System Design Achievement Awards. With the new brand, the technical application contest is revitalized to inject a higher level of prestige for NI customers, while continuing to reward and honor innovative and noteworthy projects that harness the power of NI software and hardware.
"We are proud to receive the award. It means a great deal to us because it involves a lot of hard work ", said one of the team members, Chua. He added that this will be just the beginning of their journey. They have set a target to have greater achievement in the coming Award next year.
