UTAR faculty members receive MTSF grant

Two UTAR faculty members have been awarded a research grant under Malaysia Toray Science Foundation (MTSF) during the annual MTSF Grant Research Symposium which was held at Universiti Malaya (UM) on 26 November 2012.

Chow Tze Jen from the Faculty of Engineering and Science and Teo Kah Cheng from the Faculty of Science received a research grant worth RM25,000 and RM20,000 respectively.

Chow's winning entry titled "Haplotype and Meta Analyses of Association between Transcription Factor 4 (TCF4) Gene and Schizophrenia (SCZ) in Malaysian Population and Prediction of This Disease Using Artificial Neural Network (ANN)" and Teo's "Synthesis and Anti-bacterial Activity of 1,3,4-Thiadiazines" weathered stiff competition from a list of talented researchers during the congregation of minds which served as platform for past recipients of the MTSF Science and Technology Research Grants to present their final research reports.

This year's symposium was organised by MTSF in collaboration with UM. MTSF was established in 1993 as a non-profit foundation with the objective of contributing to the progress of science and technology in Malaysia.

Where the best minds convene: The 19th MTSF Prize Presentation Ceremony was a glittering affair that acknowledged outstanding researchers in Malaysia's research circuit.
