Over the last 30 years, she has been an active clinical researcher in her specialty, including undertaking collaborative research with international partners. She has published more than 130 articles in both local and international journals on various neonatal and paediatric issues and contributed chapters to two paediatric and neonatal textbooks.

Prof Boo is also a member of the Steering Committee for the Malaysian National Neonatal Network. In 1992 she won the Tun Razak Research Award of the Academy of Medicine of Malaysia.  She is a Fellow of the Academy of Medicine of Malaysia, The Academy of Medicine of Singapore, the Royal College of Paediatrics and Childhealth (UK), the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Glasgow and the Royal College of Physicians of Edinburgh. In 2008 she became the first paediatrician to be elected as a Fellow of the Academy of Sciences of Malaysia.
