UTAR Council Chairman Tun Dr. Ling Liong Sik received the World Chinese Economic Forum (WCEF) Lifetime Achievement Award for Contributions to the Government and Education in a special conferment ceremony held in Kuala Lumpur on 10 February 2015. The award was presented by the Minister of Transport Malaysia Dato’ Seri Liow Tiong Lai.
The award was presented in recognition of Tun Dr. Ling’s contributions towards education and the government. Tun Dr Ling played a key role in the establishment of Universiti Tunku Abdul Rahman (UTAR) and helped to raise the funds needed for the initial set up of UTAR. Tun Dr Ling is currently the Council Chairman of UTAR and remains committed towards education.
The other recipient of the Lifetime Achievement Award for ‘Leadership in Banking and Financial Services’ was CIMB Group chairman Dato’ Seri Nazir Abdul Razak. Also present at the ceremony was WCEF cum Asian Strategy and Leadership Institute chairman and CEO Tan Sri Michael Yeoh.
WCEF is organised by the Asian Strategy and Leadership Institute to promote closer links between China and South-East Asia, and between China and the West. It aims to foster business partnerships, economic -cooperation and academic collaboration.
Established in Kuala Lumpur in 2009, WCEF also aims to create greater understanding of China and its impact on regional peace, stability and prosperity.
