Two wins at women games

Team UTAR took home the second and third place with cash prizes of RM350 and RM150 for the volleyball and dodgeball events respectively at the 2^nd MOHE-IIUM (Ministry of Higher Education – International Islamic University Malaysia) Varsity Women Games 2016 held on 15 to 16 October 2016 at IIUM.

“The volleyball team’s performance boosted their confidence for the upcoming MASISWA Sports Carnival Zone Selangor in November,” Department of Student Affairs (Sungai Long Campus) Sports and Recreation Unit’s (SRU) Nuraini Binti Ibrahim.

“It’s a good achievement considering it was their first time participating in a dodgeball event. Our athletes set very high standards for themselves, however, they need more training to strengthen their skills, tactics and techniques in order to win future competitions,” she continued.

The volleyball team consisted of Mandarin Enhancement Programme (MEP) student Chelsea Rachelle Williams; Accounting students Tiew Pui Xian and Chew Xiao Han; Civil Engineering student Low Kah Kei; Medical student Ho Zi Qi; Foundation student Fiona Toh Wan Tsi; Chinese Medicine student Leong Fui Fui; Global Economics student Heng Ying Si; Physiotherapy student Yap Chui Min; Quantity Surveying student Goh Chui Ye; Graphic Design and Multimedia student Lai Ann Key; and International Business student Lou Pei Nie.

As for the dodgeball team, it consisted of Civil Engineering students Ong Bee San, Choong Pei Shan, Phua Mei Xian; Graphic Design and Multimedia student Maxine Choo Mun Ngah; Global Economics student Evelyn Mok Jo-yee; Foundation students Evelyn Wong Shu Li Cheng Khai Xuan, Samantha Cheng Li Yuan, Patricia Liaw Hui Li, and Fiona Toh Wan Tsi. 

Athletes from UTAR also competed in netball, petanque and touch rugby at the games against other varsities such as Taylor’s University, Sunway College, Tunku Abdul Rahman University College (TARUC), Universiti Teknikal Malaysia Melaka (UTeM), Universiti Kuala Lumpur (UniKL).
