The Faculty of Accountancy and Management (FAM) organised The Poster and 5 Minute Presentation Competition for the second time this year with the participation of the Industrial and Commercial Bank of China (ICBC), held on 29 November 2016 at Sungai Long Campus.

Both competitions were based on the students’ Final Year Projects. The event was to serve as a platform for the students to consolidate their ideas, crystalise their research discoveries, while sharing and learning at the same time. Apart from those, students also learn to communicate their ideas effectively to non-specialist audiences. Overall, it was an exercise in developing academic and research communication skills.

Judging of the posters was held earlier on 25 November 2016 through an exhibition of FYP posters elucidated by the students. The judges were FAM Lecturers Low Mei Peng, Tan Jue Xin, Tai Lit Cheng, Nurakmar Binti Mohamad Salleh, Dr Aye Aye Khin, Sr Dr Tajul Ariffin Bin Mohd Idris, Puteri Ameera Binti Mentaza Khan and Tuam Kwok Choon.

The judges for the Five Minute Presentation were Lecturers Dr T. Puvaneswary, Dr A. Thillaisundaram, Dr Lim Wan Leng, Dr Cham Tat Huei, Dr Teddy Lian Kok Fei, Dr Ng Kar Yee, Dr S. Sheelah and Dr Chong Shyue Chuan.

“Organising such competitions enable students to learn to build on their strengths, knowledge, confidence, and gain real-world exposure all towards building morale for a better future,” said FAM Dean Dr Sia Bee Chuan.

The Best Poster was titled “Factors of workplace environment that affect employees’ job satisfaction among Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) in Klang Valley”. Its proud creators Tan Shiong Yeek, Leong Sher Li, Phun Rong Zhen and Wan Pik San walked away with a RM100 cash prize.

The team that was crowned Champion for the Presentation Competition were Chow Mei Yeng, Chan Man Cong, Lee Jin Xin and Pan Wen Yan with their presentation on “Factors Influencing Students’ Attitude and Behavioural Intentions to Use Public Transports”. Meanwhile, Goh Jia Hui, Han Xiao Yin, Lee Pey Kim and Tan Pei Yin won the 1st Runner Up with their presentation on “Factors Affecting the Housing Preferences of Home Buyers in Kuala Lumpur” and Harkrishan Singh, Ha Siew Ping, Lee Chee Yeow and Lim Yong Wei bagged 2nd Runner Up with their presentation on “Intention to Play e-Sports among University Students”. The prizes were RM500 for the Champion, RM300 for the 1st Runner Up and RM200 for the 2nd Runner Up, all sponsored by the Industrial and Commercial Bank of China (ICBC). Consolation prizes worth RM100 each were given to the other nine teams.

“This competition spurred us to learn new skills such as designing posters and how to present in a clear concise manner to the audience within five minutes. Besides that, all of us took the initiative to further understand the concept for our project. Learning to cooperate with teammates is important and I believe in giving a good presentation, a lot of practice is required as practice makes perfect,” said Chow Mei Yeng.
