It was a victorious moment for UTAR and for team Javaman, who won the third place at the MonsoonSIM ERP Business Simulation Competition Malaysia Final, held on 19 August 2017 at the Asia Pacific University (APU) in Kuala Lumpur.
The Faculty of Information and Communication Technology (FICT) team, which consisted of five members, namely Loo Wei Jing, Wong Wai Man, Chua Wei Jie, Chin Kah Men and Chew Zhi Shian, was awarded a cash prize of RM1,000 and was accompanied by FICT Deputy Dean for Student Development and Industrial Training Dr Choo Peng Yin.
The fun and interactive cloud-based MonsoonSIM platform, which aimed to provide participants with experiential learning about Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) via gamification and to incubate future ERP talent, required the participants to compete with one another in a competitive virtual business world.
Each team managed 12 different business modules, namely Finance, Production, Material Requirements Planning (MRP), Warehousing and Logistics, Forecasting, Procurement, Asset Maintenance, Retail, Wholesaling, Marketing, Customer Service and Human Resources.
Against the other 90 participants from five universities, namely Universiti Teknologi Malaysia, Universiti Malaysia Pahang, Multimedia University, University Kebangsaan Malaysia, and APU, team Javaman and two other UTAR teams, namely Silent and J2, successfully proceeded to the second round of the competition. Team Silent was placed sixth while team J2 placed seventh. Both teams received consolation cash prizes of RM300 each.
MonsoonSIM ERP Competition is an annual business competition that is co-organised by APU’s Faculty of Business and Management, SAP, Monsoon Academy, Knowledgecom and Infusion.
