The winners of FYP Poster Competition
The Lee Kong Chian Faculty of Engineering and Science (LKC FES) Final Year Project (FYP) Committee together with IEM Student Chapter organised an FYP poster competition on 11 April 2018 at Sungai Long Campus. In conjunction with the competition, the event also saw the presentation of sponsored awards by Brunsfield and Starken AAC.
The event aimed at encouraging students to pursue research excellence and to cultivate creativity. The FYP Poster Competition was sponsored by Advancecon Infra Sdn Bhd, EverLantern Trading Sdn Bhd and Kerjaya Prospek (M) Sdn Bhd.
Present at the event were UTAR Vice President for Internationalisation and Academic Development Ir Prof Dr Ewe Hong Tat, Brunsfield Group Managing Director Tan Sri Dato’ Dr Ir Gan Thian Leong, Starken AAC Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Ng Wai Luen, Kerjaya Prospek (M) Sdn Bhd Executive Director Datin Toh Siew Chuon, Advancecon Infra Sdn Bhd Human Resource and Administration Manager George Yap, LKC FES Dean Ir Prof Dr Goi Bok Min and FYP Committee Chairperson Dr Stella Morris. The event also saw the presence of sponsors, judges, UTAR Industry Advisory Panel members, industrial partners, the faculty members and students.
There were eight tracks included in the competition, namely green technology; sustainable development; engineering social sciences; project management; software design and prototypes; theoretical/ experimental sciences; applied mathematics, process automation and simulation; and applied engineering. The posters were evaluated according to their respective track.

On the other hand, judges from UTAR LKC FES included Centre for Vehicular Technology Chairperson Dr Chew Kuew Wai, Prof Dr Chong Kok Keong, Dr Tan Choon Peng, Ir Dr Low Kaw Sai, Dr Ananthan Valitherm, Dr Goh Yann Ling, Dr Mok Siew Ying, Dr Ng Chai Yan, Dr Rubina Bahar, Dr Sujan Chowdhury, Farizuwana Akma binti Zukifle, Ir Siao Wen Bin, Nur Aqlima binti Ramli, Wong Chim Chwee and Ir Wee Sie Toon.

In his welcome speech, Prof Ewe thanked the sponsors for the FYP Competition. He also thanked Brunsfield and Starken AAC, and said, “Both Brunsfield and Starken AAC have been long-time supporters of the university, and have been presenting awards to UTAR students for good academic performance. I would like to express my deep appreciation for your contributions to the students and the commitment shown towards education. Besides, I would also like to thank all the judges, particularly those from the industry. Your comments and encouragements are very valuable to the students’ learning and will certainly help them to improve. For the students, I hope the awards will inspire you to excel further in both your studies and career, and perhaps later on, you could consider contributing back to the industry through joint research collaborations or consultancy work.”
On behalf of Starken AAC, Ng Wai Luen announced, “We have decided to further sponsor the awards to UTAR students for another three years. Besides, we also offer sponsorship for UTAR students to pursue postgraduate studies. These sponsorships aim to encourage UTAR students to achieve even better and hope to attract more young talents to be the innovators in the industry and make this world a better place to live.”
Tan Sri Gan said, “In view of strengthening the relationship between the academia and the industry, Brunsfield is happy to collaborate with UTAR throughout the past years through award-giving and sponsored chair to UTAR. This successful partnership will sustain further to promote engineering education in Malaysia, and I look forward to more collaborations with UTAR in the future.”
Speaking at the event on behalf of Advancecon Infra, George Yap said, “We are happy to establish an amicable partnership with UTAR through a meaningful event like this FYP Poster Competition. Through this opportunity, we wish to attract more civil engineering students to pursue a career in the relevant field and we always welcome UTAR graduates to join us. I am also impressed that the university provides the opportunity for the students to unleash their creativity and innovative skills through the FYP.”
Malvin Tan from Kerjaya Prospek introduced the organisation at the event and said, “We would like to thank UTAR for inviting us to contribute to this event. We are happy to be part of this effort which provides a learning platform for the students and allows the students to have the opportunity to meet people from the industry. We welcome the potential graduating students to join us in the future.”

(C) LKC FES FYP Poster Competition (April 2018)
All participants of the FYP poster competition were awarded a certificate of participation.Each track champion was awarded a cash prize of RM250 and a certificate. The first runner-up won RM150 and a certificate and second runner-up won a cash prize of RM100 and a certificate. The most liked poster on Facebook was awarded a trophy and a certificate.
