Alumnus sweeps three green awards for his writings 

Faculty of Arts and Social Science’s Bachelor of Communication (Hons) Public Relations alumnus Lo Tern Chern beamed with joy when he swept three awards at the Penang Green Journalism Award 2019 held at The Wembley – A St Giles Hotel Penang on 21 November 2019.

Lo walked away with Excellent Award for Hard News report category, the Special Award for Feature Writing category and Champion in Photojournalism category.

His winning article for the Hard News report category was “Baffled over illegal dumping”. The other six articles were for the Feature Writing category, titled “Mother Nature under siege”, “Only the tip of the iceberg”, “Action to be taken against dumpsite operator”, “MPSP goes after three landowners”, “No action yet on chemical waste” and “No respite for dumping ground”.

As quoted in The Star Newspaper, Lo enthused, “As a journalist, I think it is my duty to voice out for the environment. To me, writing about the environment helps raise awareness among the people. It must be everyone’s responsibility to look after the surroundings, starting from home and the small things that we do every day.”

The winning stories and photos were chosen among 90 submissions from journalists and photographers from different media houses.

A total of 18 awards were given out under the Penang Green Journalism Award 2019 presentation ceremony. Themed ‘Say No to Single-Use Plastics’, the presentation ceremony was attended by more than 200 guests.
