LKC FES student proves his mettle in BVIA

Leo after his presentation at the competition

Lee Kong Chian Faculty of Engineering and Science’s (LKC FES) Bachelor of Science (Hons) Financial Mathematics student Leo Cheong Zhe, who represented UTAR, managed to win the stage one of “The 2019 Budding Value Investor Award” among 24 universities across eight countries and eleven nationalities.

The global investment research competition, themed “Value Investing”, is an international competition organised and sponsored by icapital.biz Berhad and Capital Dynamics Sdn Bhd with the aim to inculcate the interest of undergraduates to learn about sound investing at a young age and educate them about its benefits. Value investing is a well-known, time-proven investment strategy that is used globally to identify both listed and unlisted undervalued securities.

The competition consisted of two stages. The first stage took the form of an essay and investment research while the second stage required the finalists to present their research papers at Wisma MCA on 13 April 2019.

Leo said, “I chose to participate in this event because I am a value investor, and I take this as a golden opportunity because it allows us, undergraduates, to get ourselves involve in a competition with a theme of value investing which is by far the first and only in Asia. I hope to have the chance to explore deeper into the investment industry and gain more exposure. I have faith that I am able to shine in the international stage, along with the name of UTAR in the future.”
