Silver and Bronze in Karate Championship

A team consisting of five athletes from UTAR namely, Chew Kai Yuan, Kok Zhi Yuan, Tan Kok Xyuen, Tan Chia Wen and Tee Xi Wen participated in the “1^st TAR UC Goshin-Ryu Karate Championship 2019” at TAR UC Setapak Campus on 22 June 2019. The championship was organised by TAR UC Karate Club.

The championship aimed to bring karatekas from all tertiary education institutions to compete and get to know each other. The championship saw the participation of more than 250 karatekas from different states in Malaysia namely, Penang, Johor, Kuala Lumpur and Perak, to name a few. On top of that, more than 400 spectators and supporters were also present at the championship.

Among the five athletes from UTAR, Tan Kok Xyuen managed to secure a Silver medal in the Male Kumite University category while Tan Chia Wen secured a Bronze medal in the Female Kumite University category.

“The event was well organised. Our athletes gave their full commitment in all the matches.  I believe they have gained a fruitful experience through this championship because it has helped them to improve not only mentally and physically but it has also provided them the experiences needed to improve for the future tournaments,” said Sungai Long Department of Student Affairs Assistant Manager Norhidayah binti Hamsah.
