First, second and third prize in AutoCount Competition 2021

Bachelor of Commerce (Honours) Accounting students Lee Chian, Teo Shian Rou and Choo Ching Szen from the Faculty of Business and Finance (FBF) won first, second and third prizes consecutively at the “AutoCount  Competition 2021” on 13 September 2021 via Microsoft Teams.

The competition was jointly organised by the UTAR Department of Commerce and Accounting, UTAR Accounting Society and Auto Count Sdn Bhd (ACSB) from 1 September 2021 to 3 September 2021.

The first prize winner, Lee walked away with RM200, while the second prize winner Teo and the third prize winner Choo took home RM150 and RM100 respectively. The winners also received e-certificates and were awarded 5 core (5 points under Creative and Strategic Thinking), 7 Core (5 points under Critical Thinking, Creative Thinking and Problem Solving) and 10 Core (5 points under Cognitive Skills).

The objective of the competition was to enhance students’ knowledge in the areas of accounting software packages; develop students’ skills in the use of accounting software packages in documenting systems and preparing a full set of accounts using computerised accounting packages; nurture students’ soft skills including task analysis, time management and critical thinking, and promote the collaboration between UTAR and ACSB to foster support for education learning.

The competition required the participants to answer the questions from a full set of accounts. It tested their intellectual skills related to financial reporting statements and adjustment transactions. Furthermore, the participants were required to prepare a full set of accounts using AutoCount software within the stipulated dateline, and the answers were forwarded to Auto Count Sdn Bhd (ACSB) for marking purpose.

The competition was opened to Accounting students who have completed the AutoCount course from January 2020 to May 2021 trimester from the course - UBAI2023 Accounting Information Systems.
