A trio from UTAR to compete in the national round of Huawei ICT Competition

A trio from Lee Kong Chien Faculty of Engineering and Science (LKC FES) and Faculty of Information and Communication Technology (FICT) brought home Huawei Nova 8i smartphones each after winning the first runner-up at “Huawei ICT Competition 2021-2022” in November 2021.

The Huawei ICT Competition is a competitive ICT talent exchange event developed by Huawei for global college students. To promote the healthy development of the ICT talent ecosystem and support the integration of industry and education, Huawei invited Huawei ICT academies in Malaysia with relevant majors to participate in the Huawei ICT Competition 2021-2022.

The annual competition witnessed students from various universities registering themselves in the competition. There was a preliminary round at the university level, held through an online examination. Three students with the highest scores were selected to represent the university at the national round. Prior to the pandemic, the national round was held as a physical event in which participants worked in groups to configure the network within a limited time. For this year, however, the national round will see participants going through an online examination in February 2022 and the university with the highest total score will win.

Three students from LKC FES represented UTAR this year, namely Computer Science student Tan Jing Jie, and Biomedical Engineering students Wong Yi Jie and Wee Lian Jie. The team will compete in the national round as two of them were able to pass the Huawei Certified ICT Associate (HCIA) - Datacom examination. These achievements contributed high scores to the team.

“We would like to offer our gratitude to the faculty management of LKC FES and FICT, and also not to forget Huawei Malaysia office for their support all the time. The team will continue to work hard and prepare for the regional round in February 2022,” said the team advisor Dr Shee Yu Gang from LKC FES.
