Faculty of Business and Finance Bachelor of Commerce (Honours) Accounting students Choo Ching Szen, Jason Ding Jia Qing and Tan Xin Yin won third place in Deloitte Audit Business Challenge 2021, held on 3 December 2021. They walked away with a cash prize of RM1,500, e-certificates as well as an opportunity for a job/internship with the firm upon graduation.
The objective of the competition was to test participants’ knowledge in the accounting and auditing world through firsthand experience. Besides, it aimed to provide participants with amazing learning opportunities from leading industry experts, as well as networking opportunities with Deloitte experts.
Themed ‘Digital, Adaptation, Builds, Conversion’, the team “Immortal” selected the topic “Pandemic changes the business landscape; how do accountant and auditors evolve?”. The team stated that the reason they chose the topic was because they wanted to investigate the effects that occurred in accountants’ and auditors’ works during the pandemic. Moreover, the research topic allowed them to gain insights and perspectives into the working life of accountants and auditors during the Covid-19 pandemic.
The trio said, “The competition was categorised into several stages. Stage 1 required the participants to undertake multiple-choice assessment and Stage 2 required the participants to present a five-minute video according to the chosen topic. In Stage 3, participants were required to solve simulated audit scenarios in five different game stations and hold a group presentation session.” The team added, “The stages were tough because most of the tasks required us to be highly coordinated in gathering the relevant information to prepare for the final presentation. Although we were given a tight timeline to complete the five game stations in the finals, we managed to complete most of them on time due to good teamwork and cooperation. We were able to deliver the final presentation confidently. As a result, we managed to win this challenge.”
Exclusively partnered with CPA Australia, the Deloitte Audit Business Challenge offered a virtual platform to test the participants’ theoretical knowledge and practice, especially in the accounting and auditing areas.
