UTAR celebrated
the decade-long service of its staff as well as the teaching and research
excellence of academics during the first virtual UTAR Staff Long Service and
Excellence Awards e-Ceremony 2020 at Microsoft Teams on 30 December 2020.
It is an annual event aimed to reward staff who have
served the University for a decade and to acknowledge the academics for
their excellent teaching and research endeavours as well as the
administrative staff for their service excellence.
Present at the award e-ceremony were UTAR President
Ir Prof Dr Ewe Hong Tat, Vice President for Internationalisation and
Academic Development Ir Prof Dr Yow Ho Kwang, Vice President for Student
Development and Alumni Relations Prof Dr Choong Chee Keong, Registrar Yim
Lin Heng, Division of Human Resource Director Marchie Lim Pin Sim, deans and
directors, award recipients and staff.
Prof Ewe thanking UTAR staff for their contributions
In his opening remark, Prof Ewe expressed his sincere
gratitude, “The year 2020 marks the 18th year of operation for UTAR. The
University has attained good rankings, our academics have won many awards
and recognition, and our students have excelled in many fields. Through
everyone’s efforts, the University has attained many positive performance
indicators of success. All these achievements would have not been made
possible without the tremendous support and encouragement of our Chancellor
Tun Dr Ling Liong Sik, the Board of Trustees, and our Council Members. I
must also say that we have been very fortunate, and on behalf of the
University, I would like to express my most sincere and deepest gratitude to
all of them for their undivided support and assistance to UTAR.”
Prof Ewe thanked everyone for going through the
challenges together during the pandemic, “The University adopted online
teaching and learning during the MCO and CMCO. I know this transformation
has been sudden for some staff but many staff took the challenge and learnt
new IT skills and software knowledge and made online learning a success for
our students. Such transformation and the spirit of learning together with
the students in the face of unexpected challenges made us more resilient to
face more challenges ahead. I would like to take this opportunity to thank
all staff and students for the assistance, participation, support and
cooperation during the MCO and CMCO when online teaching and learning had to
be adopted. My special thanks go to everyone who helped to organise
webinars, online courses and e-tutorials to ensure that learning continues
for the students and the community.”
“I hope this same spirit of contribution will
continue to see us through the new challenges ahead and we can put our hands
together for greater and more innovative successes especially in teaching,
learning and research. We are, after all, a University by the people, for
the people – working in the interest of the University, the community,
nation and the students under our wings,” Prof Ewe emphasised.
Congratulating the award recipients, Prof Ewe also
said, “The University has always promoted excellence as the way forward
towards achieving our goals and vision. Hence, it is with great pride that I
congratulate all our Long Service Award recipients as well as the Excellence
Award recipients in the categories of Teaching, E-Learning, Innovation,
Service and Research Centre. Upon receiving your award of long service and
excellence, I hope that you will lead the way to guide and train your staff
and fellow colleagues to learn and follow your best practices. This
recognition of your hard work and contribution will hopefully inspire you to
attain greater performance and work towards greater successes ahead.”
