LKC FES and FMHS students swipe four awards at Wushu Competition

UTAR Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences (FMHS) student Ong Wesley and Lee Kong Chian Faculty of Engineering and Science (LKC FES) student Ng Yong Quan powered their way to one gold, two silver and one bronze medals at the International WuDeBei Traditional Wushu Online Competition 2020. 

The competition, held from 1 November 2020 to 15 December 2020, was organised by the International WuDeBei Traditional Wushu Federation and co-organised by Singapore Traditional Wushu Federation, and Siang Hock Kong Cultural and Arts Bureau, Singapore. It was conducted via an online platform whereby participants were required to do a full recording of Wushu performance in the specific category and submit it to the organiser to be evaluated by a panel of judges to determine the overall placing of the players. 

Participants were plentiful from all age groups of secondary school as well as universities and traditional wushu enthusiasts from all around South-East Asia. Ong and Ng represented UTAR for the tournament, showing their best performance and successfully taking home the medals.

Ong won the gold medal for Gong Li Quan (功力拳) and a bronze medal for Qun Yang Gun (群羊棍); while Ng collected two silver medals from Traditional Baji Fist (八极拳) and Traditional Double Weapon (双剑).
