Second place in Digital M100 Challenge

Second place winner, Chua

Bachelor of Accounting (Honours) student Chua Wen Li emerged as the second place winner of the Digital M100 Challenge 2.0, held from 22 February to 5 March 2021, via Google Classroom and Zoom. The digital challenge was organised by GTI Media under GradMalaysia.

In the challenge, participants were given various tasks to be completed, which aimed to test their IQ, EQ, and soft skills. It also allowed participating employers, namely Great Eastern Life Assurance, OCBC Bank and RHB Banking Group to use the challenge as a platform for evaluating participant’s skills and abilities.

“In previous years, M100 Challenge was a unique careers challenge event to test student's mental and physical in the challenge set up by participating employers. This time, the digital M100 Challenge also focused on mental and digital knowledge,” said Department of Alumni Relations and Placement Head Lim Swea Jen.

“Participating in this digital challenge has improved my communication skills and teamwork. Most of the tasks in the challenge were required to be completed in a group, hence communication skills and teamwork were very important. We also provided our opinions and brainstormed together, and whenever there were differences in opinions, we discussed among ourselves and listened to each other’s opinions,” said Chua.

She added, “I did not expect to win second place, but nevertheless I am grateful. I am happy because my teammate and I tried our best and this prize has proven that our hard work paid off. It was also memorable, especially for the decision-making tasks. That task was assigned by Great Eastern Life Assurance. Each decision we made in response to the tasks given, needed to be justified, which was similar to a real-life situation. That task taught me what to expect of the working world, and also provided me with some ideas relating to my career.”

Other participating universities included Curtin University Sarawak Malaysia, Heriot-Watt University, Intec Education College, Methodist College Kuala Lumpur, Monash University Malaysia, UCSI University, Taylor’s University, Tunku Abdul Rahman University College, Sunway University College, Sunway College, University of Malaya, University of Nottingham, Universiti Sains Islam Malaysia, Universiti Teknologi Mara, Universiti Teknologi Malaysia, Universiti Utara Malaysia and Xiamen University.
