UTAR congratulates Dr Ng Kwan Hoong, Adjunct Professor at UTAR Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences, for being elected as Fellow of The World Academy of Sciences (TWAS) effective 1 January 2022.
Previously, Dr Ng was awarded the Marie Sklodowska-Curie Award in 2018 by the International Organization for Medical Physics (IOMP) for his efforts in researching breast cancer and other biomedical imaging techniques. He was the only recipient to win this prestigious award from a developing country. In December 2020, Dr Ng received the Merdeka Award and was conferred the Outstanding Scholastic Achievement award for his educational and pioneering work towards advancing the fields of medical physics and radiation medicine in Malaysia.
The World Academy of Sciences (TWAS) was founded in 1983 by a group of distinguished scientists from the developing world under the leadership of Prof Mohammad Abdus Salam, the Pakistani physicist and Nobel laureate. The group shared a belief that developing nations can collectively address challenges such as hunger, disease and poverty by building strength in science and engineering. TWAS was set up for the advancement of science in developing countries. It supports sustainable prosperity through research, education, policy, and diplomacy.
