Team leader Ng and his team were announced as the champion

It was a victorious celebration for Bachelor of Commerce (Honours) Accounting student Ng Jia Zheng from the Faculty of Business and Finance, and his teammates Beh Jen Han from Universiti Utara Malaysia (UUM), Florence Tan E-Vern from Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM), Ooi Wen Tang from INTI International University, and Yeang Kai Zuing from Tunku Abdul Rahman University College (TAR UC) when they were declared the Champion of the Dell Business Challenge 2022, organised virtually by Dell from 13 to 14 April 2022 via Zoom.

Each of them won a Dell 22” Monitor and Dell Wireless Keyboard and mouse worth RM1,100, as well as a job interview with Dell’s Finance team to participate in the prestigious Finance/Accounting Development Programme that has been specifically designed to kick start the candidate’s Finance/Accounting career.

Ng enthused, “Despite the team consisting of members from various universities, our teamwork was good and we are indeed happy to be crowned the champion. I joined the competition initially to gain more experience and knowledge, and I felt a little confident, especially after having completed my six-month internship. My teammates were very proactive and we had good discussions.”

He added, “I am also grateful to UTAR for equipping me with the relevant management accounting and financial accounting knowledge. This further provided me with a strong foundation and the ability to brainstorm with my teammates. I was also able to use the learned skills during the presentation and it was indeed helpful.”

He also explained, “I was assigned to a question related to cost accounting, and we were requested to prepare the presentation. Although meeting the deadline was challenging, our teamwork was effective and our hard work paid off. From this, I also understood the importance of having good teammates, good teamwork, and time management. Participating in the competition was certainly a worthwhile experience and I am grateful to my teammates.”

The objective of the business challenge was to provide students with the opportunity to meet with the Dell executives, learn about the realities and environment of a multinational company, and understand the job opportunities offered to fresh graduates majoring in Accounting and/or Finance. At the challenge, participants showcased their skills via working on the case study in a group and presenting their findings to the executives. In addition to winning prizes, the top team will secure a job interview with Dell’s Finance team.
