UTAR Lee Kong Chian Faculty of Engineering and Science (LKC FES) academic Prof Dr Yau Kok Lim received the Best Paper Award at the 12th IEEE International Conference on Control System, Computing and Engineering (ICCSCE) 2022 which was held virtually on 22 October 2022.

The ICCSCE 2022 is an annual IEEE International Conference, organised by IEEE and UiTM Penang Branch. It aimed to provide an open forum for researchers, engineers, network planners and service providers targeted on newly emerging algorithms, systems, standards, services, and applications. It also aimed to bring together leading international players in control systems, computing and engineering. The event is positioned as a major international annual conference for the presentation of original and fundamental research and engineering results.

Out of the 40 papers accepted at the international conference, Prof Yau’s research titled “Towards Latency Aware Multi-joint Optimization Method for VNF Placement and SFC Routing via Swam Intelligence” was selected for the award. His research aims to solve the joint optimisation of virtual network function (VNF) with VNF placement and service function chain routing while achieving the latency requirements of 5G networks.

The research was co-authored with Sunway University academics Angela Amphawan, Muhammad Basheer Jasser and Zahida Sharif. On behalf of his research team, Prof Yau enthused, “We are very happy and honoured to receive such a high recognition for our research work, yet we are humbled by how far there is to go.”

The researchers walked away with the Best Paper Award certificate each.
