FAM academic awarded CIMA Teaching Excellence Award

Faculty of Accountancy and Management Senior Lecturer Shamini Kandasamy was awarded the Country Champion (Malaysia) for the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (CIMA) Teaching Excellence Award 2021.

This award recognises those who have demonstrated remarkable commitment to their students and the accounting profession in the past year.

When asked about her achievement, she replied, "I am indeed grateful to win this prestigious award.  This prestigious National Award is not only meant for me but also the Faculty and the University. The award was based on how the lecturer motivates and encourages students on Management Accounting  related syllabuses through teaching and innovative ways to bring about students' higher order thinking. The students understood the subject matter with ease through discussions and case studies. With this award, I  am motivated to continue to develop more students to become better accountants."

The Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (CIMA) is the world’s leading and largest professional body of management accountants. It announced the 71 global and 66 regional and country winners of the second edition of the CIMA Excellence Awards in a virtual ceremony held on 10 December 2021.

CIMA received more than 400 nominations from educational institutions and individuals this year for consideration in four categories, namely CIMA Teaching Excellence Award, CIMA Research Excellence Award, CIMA Campus Culture Excellence Award and CIMA Employability Excellence Award. In addition, a central award committee selected winners for the CIMA Prize-Winner Excellence Award, CIMA Global Excellence Award, and CGMA Campus of the Year Award based on CIMA exam performance in 2020 and 2021.
