152 students received UTAR Scholarship

Hundred fifty two students were awarded UTAR scholarships at the UTAR Scholarship Presentation e-Ceremony for January 2022 intake on 26 February 2022. The e-ceremony was hosted on Microsoft Teams. The scholarship recipients were students from the January 2022 intake, enrolled in UTAR Foundation and undergraduate programmes.

Present at the e-ceremony were UTAR President Ir Prof Dr Ewe Hong Tat, UTAR Vice President for Student Development and Alumni Relations Prof Dr Choong Chee Keong, Head of Department for Scholarships and Financial Aid Tan Wear Sim, UTAR staff and scholarship recipients.

Prof Ewe congratulated the recipients and said, “As a University by the people, for the people, UTAR has been receiving support and contributions from the community. In return, since our inception, the University has been providing scholarships and loans to students in need. As of 2021, over RM117million internal scholarships and over RM10million internal loans have been awarded to students.”

He added, “UTAR will continue to provide financial assistance to students who are in need to enable them to further their studies in the University and to obtain a valuable degree for a brighter career. It is also through the financial assistance provided that the University is able to continue its sustainability initiative of ensuring deserving students receive quality education and lifelong learning opportunities. Thus, stay focused on getting good grades and putting in your best for a good University education and experience.”

Foundation students Chong and Nicole Ho expressing their gratitude

Foundation student Chong Kai Yuan said, “I am a Foundation in Science student at UTAR. I wish to pursue Chemical Engineering in the future. I was awarded a 100% tuition fee scholarship. This scholarship has relieved my burden of having to pay the tuition fees. Thanks to that, I can now focus on my studies. After joining UTAR, I found that all the lecturers and tutors here are experienced in teaching. They are also very helpful. I am grateful to them.”

Another Foundation student Nicole Ho Kah Wei said, “It is definitely a great start for my tertiary education at UTAR. I am now studying Foundation in Arts and Social Science. I am the only child in my family. I was raised by my mother and my grandmother.” She hopes to repay her guardians by excelling in her academic and co-curricular activities as well as being a good person in general.

Undergraduate students Koh and Tey expressing their gratitude

Faculty of Information and Communication Technology (FICT) student Koh Zi Kang said, “This financial assistance will be a great help to me in paying my educational expenses and lessening the burden of my family. I look forward to helping those in need as well as giving back to society in the future. Thank you UTAR.”

Faculty of Science (FSc) student Tey Yun Lei said, “I appreciate the scholarship given by UTAR and I will continue to work hard to achieve my goal.” Tey also mentioned that she is looking forward to beginning a colourful degree life at UTAR.

The virtual ceremony ended with a group photo session.

UTAR congratulates all the scholarship recipients and wishes them a good educational experience at the University.
