FBF researchers won best research award at EMMA-2021

A team of Faculty of Business and Finance (FBF) academics made the Faculty proud when they were conferred the Best Paper Award at the 1st International Conference on EMMA-2021 (Engineering, Medicine, Management, Arts and Sciences) which was held from 24 to 26 December 2021 via online.

The team consisted of UTAR FBF Department of Business and Public Administration academic Dr S. Charles Ramendran and Department of Commerce and Accountancy academic Dr Zam Zuriyati binti Mohamad, along with Quest International University (QIU) senior lecturer Dr Tanaraj Krishna.

The award-winning research was titled “Adoption of Malaysian Private Entities Reporting Standards (MPERS): An Institutional Perspectives” and the winners walked away with a certificate each.

When asked about the recognition, Dr Charles and Dr Zam enthused, “It is a great recognition at the international level for the accounting and business field paper since this research managed to investigate the perception of accounting professionals especially in Malaysia on the effect of institutional pressures on the adoption of Malaysian Private Entities Reporting Standards (MPERS). Ironically, the results identified three institutional pressures: coercive isomorphism, normative isomorphism, and mimetic isomorphism that influences the adoption of the standards. The findings contribute to the debate whether developing countries, such as Malaysia, should implement IFRS for SMEs and the IASB version of MPERS from a global viewpoint.”

Organised by Chendur Research Foundation (CRF) in association with Panipat Institute of Engineering & Technology (PIET), the conference aimed to bring together national and international experts on a common platform and share the state of the art on various topics related to health and sciences, medical, engineering, management, law, agriculture and etcetera.
