Lee Kong Chian Faculty of Engineering and Science
academic Assoc Prof Ir Dr Chee Pei Song won
the Young Scientist Award and the Best Presentation Award at the 2022 IEEE
5th International Conference on Electronics Technology (IEEE ICET 2022). The
IEEE ICET 2022 was organised by the Sichuan Institute of Electronics, The
Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), the University of
Electronic Science and Technology of China, the Sichuan University, the
Southwest Jiaotong University and the Singapore Institute of Electronics.
His research paper, titled Wearable Flexible
Antenna for Microwave Wireless Power Transfer, was co-authored with Prof Ts
Dr Lim Eng Hock. It studies the wireless power transfer for biomedical
implantable devices at the near field region of 13.56 MHz. “We have
successfully implemented the developed prototype in drug delivery
applications. Currently, we are expanding the wireless power transfer
technique to charge the wearable device in the far-field regions. The
resonant frequencies of the wearable antenna are designed at 2.40 GHz and
5.20 GHz, which can be obtained from a commercialised WiFi modem. A
proof-of-concept of the far-field wireless power transfer was demonstrated
by successfully lighting an LED,” explained Dr Chee.
Dr Chee added, “This is a PhD work of an LKC FES
student, Chang Xi Liang. Chang has done a tremendous job in designing the
wireless power transfer module. In addition, I would also like to extend my
sincere appreciation to Prof Lim for contributing to this project. We are
also expanding our research team to work on a wireless power transfer
project.” Interested candidates may contact Dr Chee Pei Song
(cheeps@utar.edu.my) or Prof Ts Dr Lim Eng Hock (limeh@utar.edu.my.)
to join the research team.
The Young Scientist Award aims to reward young
scientists and engineers who show great promise in their field of study,
with the hope that this will nurture the growth of science and technology in
the region.
