LKC FES student wins Women in Tech award at Huawei ICT Competition Asia Pacific 2022-2023

A team of three students from UTAR participated in the Huawei ICT Competition Asia Pacific 2022-2023 Regional Final, which took place in Gedung D, Ministry of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology, Jakarta in February 2023.

The team consisted of Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) Mechatronics Engineering student Ho Wei Liang, Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) Electronics student Tay Bee Sim, and Bachelor of Computer Science (Honours) student Yong Hong Long. They were led by Lee Kong Chian Faculty of Engineering and Science (LKC FES) academic Ir Ts Dr Tham Mau Luen.

UTAR was made proud when one of the students, Tay was declared the winner of Women in Tech under the Cloud Track category. The announcement was made by Huawei on 17 March 2023.

The Huawei ICT Competition 2022–2023 Asia Pacific Regional Final is the 7th edition of the annual event. Themed ‘Connection, Glory, Future’, the competition gathered 4,772 Huawei ICT Academy students and teachers from 10 countries/regions, including Hong Kong and Macao (China), Indonesia, Philippines, Malaysia, Thailand, Singapore, Korea, Bangladesh, Cambodia and Sri Lanka.

This was the same team that was declared Champion at the Huawei ICT Competition National Final organised by Huawei on 24 November 2022 at Parkroyal Collection Hotel, Kuala Lumpur. The team is now qualified to enter the Global Final of Huawei ICT Competition 2022-2023, which will be held in China on 24 May 2023. The team is eager to represent UTAR and excel in the upcoming competition.

Huawei ICT Competition is a competitive talent exchange event developed by Huawei for those in higher education institutions. The competition aims to promote the healthy development of the ICT talent ecosystem and support the integration of industry and education.
