FAM student Hii Maw Zhe won four outstanding awards in 2023

Bachelor of Accounting (Honours) student, Hii Maw Zhe from the Faculty of Accountancy and Management (FAM), made UTAR proud by winning several outstanding awards in the year 2023.  Besides emerging as the Strategic Business Leader (SBL) Global Prizewinner in ACCA June 2023 Paper, he also won the MIA National Accounting Student Excellence Award (NASEA) 2022, MICPA Award for Best Accounting Student in Auditing and Assurance Services for August 2023 Convocation, and Little Rain Trust - UTAR Best Graduate Award.

For the ACCA June 2023 SBL paper, which is one of the Strategic Professional Level exam papers, Hii emerged as the global prizewinner, ranking first in both Malaysia and the world, with an impressive score of 95 out of 100. The official results were unveiled on 17 July 2023, followed by the confirmation of the Prizewinner status on 21 July 2023. Hii received £200 and a certificate of merit as the winning prizes.

Additionally, the MIA National Accounting Student Excellence Award (NASEA) 2022, won by Hii acknowledges the outstanding students of Bachelor of Accounting (Honours) of universities recognised by MIA under Part I of the First Schedule to the Accountants Act 1967. The winner announcement was made on 18 May 2023, followed by a grand award-giving ceremony on 14 June 2023. The accolade includes a prize of RM500, a certificate of achievement and an MIA goodies bag.

Furthermore,the MICPA Award for Best Accounting Student in Auditing and Assurance Services for August 2023 Convocation, announced on 25 July 2023 by the Malaysian Institute of Certified Public Accountants (MICPA) saw Hii walking away with a certificate. The selection of the MICPA Award for Best Accounting Student in Auditing and Assurance Services was based on students who completed their studies in January Trimester 2023. The award is usually awarded twice a year to deserving students under the MICPA Excellence Awards.

Last but not least, the Little Rain Trust – UTAR Best Graduate Award won by Hii, was announced on 25 July 2023. The award included a cash prize of RM500 and a distinguished certificate. It was given under the UTAR Best Graduate Award programme, which celebrated Hii as the top graduate in FAM, highlighting his exceptional CGPA achievements.

Hii said, “Although UTAR has an MIA-accredited accounting degree programme, I had to take the ACCA exam for its comprehensive insights into business, management, finance, accounting, auditing and taxation which are vital to my future career. It’s my honour to attain such an achievement. I would also like to take this opportunity to thank UTAR, my online tuition provider Spencer Online, my lecturers, my tutors, and my families and friends for providing me with much help and support in my ACCA studies.”

He added, “It is my honour to obtain these achievements. It was tough but, in the end, all the hard work paid off. To me, pursuing an accounting degree doesn’t limit future options; rather, it opens doors to diverse opportunities. Beyond accounting and auditing, this degree equips us with extensive knowledge in finance, tax, and business management, creating a broad spectrum of potential career paths. Moreover, the knowledge we gain proves invaluable in daily life, assisting in tax planning, personal finance management, and beyond.”
