UTAR SL Basketball Men Team secured 3rd runner-up prize at UBL 2023

The Gatorade University Basketball League (UBL) 2023 was organised by MVP Marketing Sdn Bhd this year for university and college students. It was held from 14 October 2023 to 19 November 2023 at SJKC Han Ming, Puchong.

The UTAR Sungai Long Campus was represented by a team of 15 players, who participated in the Men’s category at the event. They were also accompanied by a student assistant coach and a coach from UTAR.

The competition featured a round-robin system in the first league round, where each team played against all others in the group. The top four teams from the round-robin phase then advanced to the playoffs. In the initial round-robin matches against the other five teams, the UTAR Men’s Team secured a spot in the playoffs, finishing 2nd in Group B.

Upon advancing to the playoffs, the UTAR Men’s Team secured a victory against Xiamen University Malaysia with a score of 80-52. However, they faced a setback in the following match, losing to UCSI with a score of 41-88, leading them to compete in the 3/4th place play-offs. Ultimately, the UTAR Team concluded their journey by succumbing to Sunway University with a score of 54-65, securing the Third runner-up position. The players walked away with the PEAK Voucher worth RM1,000, a trophy and medals.
