Project led by UTAR researcher hits the highest score at ASEAN IVO Project Review 2023

Heartiest congratulations to UTAR Lee Kong Chian Faculty of Engineering and Science (LKC FES) lecturer and researcher Ir Ts Dr Tham Mau Luen and his team for obtaining the highest score at the ASEAN IVO Project Review 2023.

The result of the project evaluation was announced via email on 15 December 2023. The team walked away with a Certificate of Excellence for their research project titled “Context-Aware Disaster Mitigation using Mobile Edge Computing and Wireless Mesh Network”.

ASEAN IVO 2023 Project Review Programme organised by the National Institute of Information and Communications Technology (NICT), Japan was held on 16 November 2023 at the Vientiane Grand Ballroom of Lao Plaza Hotel, Vientiane, Laos. All project leaders of 17 ASEAN IVO projects presented their project progress at the event. All projects were evaluated by a total of 13 ASEAN IVO Steering Committees, which consisted of two representatives from each of the 10 ASEAN economies as well as the Vice President of NICT.

Dr Tham expressed, “This award stems from collaborative efforts among all project team members. On behalf of the team, I would like to thank all ASEAN IVO steering committees and secretariat for providing feedback throughout the entire project period. This has pushed us to strive for more excellence in this project.”

He added, “This recognition shows that our research is going in the correct direction and brings positive impact to society. We will expand this research to other international-level research projects.”

The ASEAN IVO [ICT Virtual Organization of ASEAN Institutes and NICT] is a global alliance of ICT R&D institutes and universities in the ASEAN region and Japan. The mission of ASEAN IVO is to seek and identify strategic ICT research areas in the ASEAN region, and promote collaborative projects in them.
