UTAR M. Kandiah Faculty of Medicine and Health
Sciences (MK FMHS) academic Emeritus Prof Dr Boo Nem Yun was recently
announced as the recipient of the Malaysian Invention and Design Society
Lifetime Scientific Research Achievements Award 2023 and labelled as the
winner of the Malaysian Woman Scientist category by the Malaysian Invention
and Design Society (MINDS). In addition, UTAR Faculty of Engineering and
Green Technology (FEGT) academic Assoc Prof ChM Ts Dr Lam Sze Mun was also
announced as the co-recipient of the Young Woman Scientist Award 2023.
The awards will be presented to these powerhouse
women at the 4th National Conference 2023 on Contribution to
National Development by Malaysian Women Scientists and Inventors, which will
take place on 4 March 2023 via Zoom. Prof Boo and Dr Lam will also be
delivering a keynote address and a lecture at the conference respectively.
Dr Lam expressed, “I am deeply pleased and honoured
to receive this prestigious award as it recognises and supports accomplished
young women’s achievements in the areas of science and technology, where
women remain underrepresented.”
Organised by MINDS, the conference aims to inspire
female youth to pursue and excel in science, technology and social sciences;
update the public about the contributions of eminent Malaysian women
scientists, and recognise the outstanding lifetime contributions of a
Malaysian woman scientist with the conferment of a Lifetime Scientific
Research Achievement Award. It also aims to encourage the development and
recognise the contributions of an outstanding young Malaysian woman
scientist below 40 years with the conferment of a Young Woman Scientist
Award.
