During the 2022 IEEE Malaysia Section FYP
Competition, several UTAR Lee Kong Chian Faculty of Engineering and Science
(LKC FES) students were awarded prizes for their Final Year Projects (FYP).
Ten students from UTAR Lee Kong Chian Faculty of
Engineering and Science (LKC FES), namely Lee Xin Ying, Wong Yi Jie, Koo Jia
Chun, Tan Chia Wen, Lim Zheng Yoong, Loh Yik Wei, Leslie Cham Yeong Lie, Tan
Jun Ying, Ng Kai Wen and Ooi Jing Quan, won big and walked away with prizes
at the 2022 IEEE Malaysia Section FYP Competition, which was held online.
The competition, which was organised by the Institute
of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) Malaysian Section, was open
to undergraduates who were undertaking their Final Year Project (FYP) and
graduates who have recently completed their studies. The participants
submitted a poster and an abstract, explaining their FYP. The competition
had a total of 22 tracks. Not only that, the champions, 1st
runner-up and 2nd runner-up of each track received a prize of
RM200, RM120, and RM80 respectively, including a certificate of achievement.
LKC FES had 39 students join the competition and won
12 prizes. Two students even won in two of the tracks. The winners along
with their projects and prizes are listed below:

Sharing her achievement of winning the second
runner-up prize in the competition’s Track 3, LKC FES student Lee Xin Ying,
said, “I am incredibly grateful to win the second runner up for Track 3 in
the IEEE FYP Competition 2022 Malaysia Section. I would like to express my
sincere thanks to my supervisor, Dr Goh Choon Hian, for his valuable
guidance, support and encouragement throughout the project. I would also
like to thank the respondents who participated in my study and everyone else
who has supported me in my journey. This recognition would not have been
possible without the contributions of all those who were involved, and I am
grateful for their support.”

Meanwhile, the winner of Track 4, LKC FES student
Wong Yi Jie, was also thankful for winning in his respective track. He said,
“I am grateful to win the Champion prize in Track 4 of the competition with
my FYP. I am extremely thankful to my both my FYP supervisors for their
guidance and support. Thanks to their help, I was able to learn a lot
throughout my FYP journey.”

Koo Jia Chun, who was the first runner-up winner of
Track 4 and Track 8, was grateful to his loved ones and supervisor for
helping him throughout the competition. “I am pleased to win the first
runner-up prizes at the 2022 IEEE Malaysia Final Year Project Competition. I
would like to express my sincere gratitude to my family, friends, and most
importantly my supervisor Dr Tee Yee Kai for making this possible,” said
Koo.

When asked about her feelings on winning the
competition, Track 8’s second runner-up winner Tan Chia Wen said, “I’m
incredibly grateful to all my lecturers who had skillfully structured the
courses to actively allow me to hone my knowledge and skills. I would also
like to give a special thanks to my supervisor Mr Chong and co-supervisor Dr
Chan for their guidance, as well as, Mr Kenneth for encouraging me to
incorporate origami theory into my final year project.”

Loh Yik Wei, the first runner-up of Track 11, felt
immensely grateful to her supervisor. She said, “I am greatly honoured to
have received the award and I would like to express my sincere appreciation
to my supervisor, Dr Katrina Shak Pui Yee for her guidance and patience throughout the
development of my research.”

Another winner, Leslie Cham Yeong Lie, mentioned, “I
am pleased to be awarded at the IEEE Malaysia Section FYP Competition 2022.
I am glad that I was able to explore the field of explosion protection
throughout the duration of my final year project. I would like to offer
thanks to my supervisor, Dr Chew Kuew Wai and co-supervisor, Dr Hau Lee
Cheun for their insightful advice and guidance. Moreover, I would also like
to express my gratitude to my beloved parents and friends who helped and
encouraged me throughout the competition.”

On the other hand, Tan Jun Ying
was ecstatic and thankful to be crowned the winner of Track 14, saying, “I
am honoured to be awarded with the Champion prize. I would like to give my
utmost thanks to my supervisor, Dr Jun Hieng Kiat, for his guidance and
professional advice throughout the competition.”
“Winning the FYP competition was an amazing achievement. I am truly grateful for this recognition. I would like to express my gratitude to my supervisors, Dr Huang and Dr Chong, for their guidance and support throughout the project. Their insights and feedback were invaluable in shaping our research and improving the quality of our work, and this success would not have been possible without their mentorship. I also want to thank the FYP organisers for providing a platform to showcase our research. It was an enriching experience, and I am grateful for the opportunity to learn from other participants. I would also like to express my heartfelt appreciation to my family and best friend. Their unwavering support and encouragement have been the driving force behind my success. They have always believed in me even when I doubted myself, and their belief gave me the motivation to pursue this project and achieve this recognition,” said Ng Kai Wen, the winner of Track 17.

Lim Zheng Yoong, who is the winner of Track 11 and
the first runner-up of Track 21, expressed his happiness at his amazing
achievements. “I would like to express my heartfelt delight to the people
that have helped me achieve my goal. I consider myself lucky to have
received this award. I hope to continue doing my best in the future,” said
Lim.

Lim Zheng Yoong’s prototype “I am honoured to be the first-place winner under
Track 18: Sensors and Nanotechnology of the 2022 IEEE Malaysia Section FYP
Competition. I am deeply
grateful for this recognition and would like to express my gratitude to my
supervisor, Dr Tan Chun Hui, and the postgraduate students Thiresa and Vinod
for their support and constructive feedback throughout the project. I am
also thankful to my family for their unwavering support of my unusual choice
of a physics major. I am grateful for the experiences that have taught me
the importance of applied physics and its potential to impact society
positively. My internship company and everyone involved provided me with
inspiration, motivation, and new knowledge, critical to the success of my
project. I am committed to using my skills and knowledge to make a
meaningful difference in the world,” said Ooi Jing Quan.
