Pertandingan Usahawan Inovasi Piala Menteri Pengajian Tinggi 2022 or
the Ministry of Higher Education (MoHE) Cup saw the participation of two
teams from UTAR. Both teams managed to secure a place in the semi-final
pitching as part of the top 30 groups among 310 participants and 62 groups
from 47 institutions. As part of the semi-finals, the two groups attended a
two-day bootcamp and pitching which was held from 28 to 30 November 2022 at
Zenith Hotel Putrajaya.
Themed ‘Innovation Today for Future Sustainability’, MoHE Cup aimed to
fulfil six SDG Goals, namely Clean Water, Food and Energy, Industry
Innovation & Integration, Life on Land, Life Below Water and Climate Action,
Good Health and Well Being, Quality Education and Gender Equality, Zero
Poverty.
The competition was designed as a platform for
students to convey creative ideas in business to the industry. This is so
that their ideas can be developed at a more competitive level and allow
their products to be applied as a sustainable business so that they can make
entrepreneurship a career choice after graduation.
One of the UTAR teams named What the Health, reached
the semi-finals with their product called PerceiVein. The team consisted of
UTAR Lee Kong Chian Faculty of Engineering and Science (LKC FES) students
Tan Xuan Qing, Lew Yanzhe, Teoh Jia Jing, and Chua Kai Wei, with UTAR
Faculty of Creative Industries lecturer Dr Aloysius Yapp acting as the
team’s advisor. Meanwhile, the second group, Smart Green Plant, was made up
of LKC FES student Tan Ee Hung, who came up with a Smart Hydroponic Indoor
Farming System for the competition. Both teams were able to reach the
semi-finals and were among the top 30 groups in the country, overcoming many
other teams nationwide.
UTAR congratulates both teams for their wonderful
accomplishment.
