MK FMHS student wins fifth prize at MSPTM National Parasitology Quiz 2023

Third-year student Lam Keat Nam from M. Kandiah Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences (MK FMHS) won the fifth prize at the Malaysian Society of Parasitology and Tropical Medicine (MSPTM) National Parasitology Quiz (MNPQ) 2023, which was organised by MSPTM and University Islam Antarabangsa Sultan Abdul Halim Mu’adzam Shah along with Universiti Sains Malaysia, Universiti Kuala Lumpur, Universiti Malaya and UTAR on 20 May 2023.

Lam was awarded a certificate of recognition along with RM100 cash prize for his outstanding performance. The certificate was presented by MSPTM 59^th Council (2022/2023) President Ts Dr Chen Chee Dhang, who was accompanied by MK FMHS Dean Academician Emeritus Prof Dr Cheong Soon Keng at UTAR Sungai Long Campus.

Dr Chen stated that the quiz aimed to promote and create awareness among students about parasitology. The quiz, according to him, covered a total of four areas, namely basic parasitology, medical parasitology, medical entomology, and one health. He also mentioned that a total of 86 participants from 15 universities participated in the event.

Feeling grateful, Lam said, “Firstly, I would like to thank my pre-clinical lecturers for their lecture slides; that have prepared me well for the competition. Next, I would like to thank my family members for their support and encouragement. Lastly, I would also like to thank all my friends for their support and for answering all my questions.” He also hoped that his award and achievement will inspire fellow juniors to pursue their passion, especially in parasitology. “Read more, stay updated, and never give up,” he finally added.
