Two Gold, one Silver and three Bronze at Kangaroo Mathematics Competition 2023

The Kangaroo Mathematics Competition 2023 was conducted physically nationwide on 18 May 2023 at the respective schools and institutions of the participants. The Department of Student Affairs and the Centre for Foundation Studies of UTAR Sungai Long Campus sponsored a total of 16 students to participate in the competition. However, one student from the Foundation in Arts Programme registered under UTAR but paid the registration fees by himself. The competition took place from 10:00 am to 11:15 am at KB524, UTAR Sungai Long Campus and was invigilated by CFS Head of Science and Engineering Department Ms Kong Jee Kim.

Out of the 17 students who participated in the competition, two students, namely Yew Fu Li and Soo Weng Hoe won the Gold Medals. The Silver Medal winner was Chew Zhi Qi and the Bronze medal winners were Tan Chee Yin, Pang Rong Tao and Loius Lim Yin Kai. Eight students walked away with Honourable Mention.

The results of the Kangaroo Mathematics Competition 2023 are as follows:

Before the competition, Ms Kong conducted two training sessions to brief and guide the students on the scope of coverage for the competition. During these sessions, which lasted for two hours each, various problems and questions related to the competition were discussed and addressed. The purpose of these training sessions was to prepare the students and equip them with the necessary knowledge and skills for the competition.

Kangaroo Mathematics Competition is currently the world’s largest math competition with more than four million participants from 96 countries in 2022. Malaysia was inducted into AKSF in 2012 and is sanctioned by AKSF to organise Kangaroo in Malaysia since 2013. In Kangaroo 2022, there were more than 45,000 participants representing over 1400 schools from all over Malaysia. From 2013 until 2022, there were almost 400,000 participants who have been participating in this competition.
