Faculty of Creative Industries (FCI) Game Development students won second place at the international South East Asian Indie Game Showcase 2023 which was held from 18 to 19 November 2023 at Lalaport, Bukit Bintang, Kuala Lumpur. There were more than 30 games from Malaysia and South East Asian countries which were showcased at the public

The FCI student winners involved in the 48-hour jam are Sun Muyangfan, Tan Yi JIe, Loke Han Ting, Fong Wei Chung and Nga Tsing Hong. FCI Lecturer Dr Carmen Nge accompanied the students as they participated in the 48-hour game jam where they had to make a playable demo of their game as a group, based on a theme that was unveiled an hour before the start of the 2-day game jam. The theme was TRAIN.

They would then showcase their playable demo at the 2-day Indie Game Jam 2023 held at Lalaport, KL. They had to be there at the public showcase to meet with the gamers and guests of the Indie Game Jam, and talk to each person who came to play their game and the player had to cast a vote. Overall, the FCI students interacted with more than 50 people in that public showcase.

There were only 2 awards up for grabs; Winner and Runner-up. Our FCI students won the Runner-up prize for the game jam.

Organised by The Magic Rain, the event is part game jam, part indie game showcase, and part AGC convention with free admission to the public. This event showcases a selection of new and upcoming games from the region.

The “Jam” part of this Indie Jam is the showcase where game developers participate in a 48-hour game jam where they create games from scratch and attendees can try out the creations and vote for their favourite game. The votes will contribute to who wins the inaugural Indie Jam Game Jam.

There are also industry sharing sessions from game developers and other members of the indie gaming community.
