Ir Ts Dr Bernard Saw awarded the Top Research Scientists Malaysia (TRSM) 2023 by Academy of Sciences Malaysia

Ir Ts Dr Bernard L H Saw from the Department of Mechanical and Material Engineering in the Lee Kong Chian Faculty of Engineering and Science was awarded the Top Research Scientists Malaysia 2023 (TRSM) by the Academy of Sciences Malaysia (ASM) at the award ceremony held on 17 Oct 2023 at M Resort & Hotel, Bukit Kiara, Kuala Lumpur. Deputy Minister of Science, Technology and Innovation YB Datuk Arthur Joseph Kurup presented the award at the ceremony.

This award is given to research scientists in Malaysia with outstanding achievements in Science, Technology, Innovation and Economy (STIE), and whose work has been nationally and internationally recognised.  Among the criteria for the eligibility of this award is that the candidate should still be actively involved in research (over the last 5 years), and with at least 10 years of cumulative contribution towards the progress of STIE.  

The Top Research Scientists Malaysia (TRSM) is selected through an objective and standardised scoring mechanism based on the impact of research output, commercialisation attained, academic awards attained at national and international level, professional recognitions, value and number of consultancy projects, R&D grants received, knowledge creation and dissemination, publications, talent development, among others.

The Top Research Scientists Malaysia (TRSM) is an ASM initiative in line with its focus on fostering a culture of excellence in Science, Technology, Innovation and Economy (STIE). The initiative aims to identify and recognise the local leading research scientists in Malaysia. The output of this initiative is to establish and showcase the Top Research Scientists Malaysia profile that would act as a central point of reference on the leading Malaysian research scientists and their research background. The convention of the best minds in the country would create a hub for knowledge dissemination that can spur the growth of STIE in Malaysia.
