LKC FES Academic Awarded Top Cited Article 2022 - 2023 by Wiley

Prof Chong

Prof Dr Chong Kok Keong from the Lee Kong Chian Faculty of Engineering and Science (LKC FES) was awarded the Top Cited Article 2022-2023 award by Wiley recently. A paper that he is co-authored with his international collaborators was recognised as a top cited paper in the Journal of the Chinese Chemical Society, underscoring the significant impact in the field of chemical science.

The award was officially announced on 11 July 2024, celebrating Prof Chong’s research paper titled “Facile synthesis of zwitterionic surfactant-assisted molybdenum oxide/reduced graphene oxide nanocomposite with enhanced photocatalytic and antimicrobial activities”. Published in 2022, the paper explored the development of an innovative material with remarkable capabilities to break down pollutants and combat bacteria, offering significant potential for environmental and health-related applications.

The research was carried out in collaboration with Prof Muhd Akhyar Farrukh from the University of Central Punjab in Pakistan. Highlighting the significance of international collaboration, Prof Chong said, “International collaboration is essential. Through participation in international conferences and academic meetings, researchers can establish networks that foster impactful research. I am fortunate to have known Prof Akhyar for over 10 years through the Global Young Academy.”

Discussing the motivation of this research paper, Prof Chong explained, “The primary challenge for scientists is to create efficient, stable, and recyclable solar light photocatalysts for pollutant degradation. This research is in line with the UN Sustainable Development Goals for clean water and affordable clean energy.”

Expressing his delight at the recognition, Prof Chong said, “I was pleasantly surprised that the article published two years ago received such great attention and appreciation from the international research community. As researchers, we hope that our work can positively impact society and the economy, both locally and globally. UTAR has always supported us in our research and development efforts.”
