LKC FES academic honoured at prestigious international material science conference

Assoc Prof Ir Ts Dr Yew Ming Kun from Lee Kong Chian Faculty of Engineering and Science received an outstanding accolade at the 13th International Conference on Material Science and Engineering Technology (ICMSET-2024). Held from 22 to 24 November 2024 at the Nagoya Convention Hall, Japan, the esteemed conference was renowned for celebrating innovative advancements in materials science and fostering global collaborations.

Dr Yew’s groundbreaking presentation, titled Novel Eco-Friendly Ultra-Lightweight Foamed Fibre-Reinforced Floating Concrete, earned him the award for Excellent Invited Speech. The research focused on developing sustainable, ultra-lightweight concrete with potential applications in the construction and aquaculture industries. “Winning this award at ICMSET-2024 is an incredible honour,” said Dr Yew. “It validates the hard work and dedication my team and I have put into advancing sustainable materials technology.”

The ICMSET-2024 conference welcomed over 120 participants from economies including the USA, China, India, and Germany. Its objectives encompassed promoting advanced research, fostering interdisciplinary collaboration, and recognising excellence through prestigious awards.

Dr Yew’s team, comprising Assoc Prof Ir Dr Lim Siong Kang, Assoc Prof Ir Dr Lim Jee Hock, Ir Ts Dr Lee Foo Wei, and LAr Ts Dr Beh Jing Han, contributed significantly to the research. The team was awarded a certificate and a gift souvenir for their exceptional contributions.

Dr Yew, who reflected on the achievement’s broader implications, said, “This recognition is significant not only for me but also for my research team. It encourages us to continue pushing the boundaries of innovation in this field.”
