The UTAR Surgical Society team brought immense pride
to UTAR by emerging as champion at the 2nd International Intervarsity
Surgical Based Quiz 2024, held on 23 November 2024. The event, organised by
the Surgical Based Department, Faculty of Medicine, Universiti Kuala Lumpur
Royal College of Medicine Perak, saw fierce competition among medical
students from across the country.
The UTAR team, comprising Year 5 Bachelor of Medicine
and Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) students Kang Shu Ting, Soh Joe, and Shun Kah
Hoe, outperformed numerous contenders across four challenging rounds of over
200 medical questions, demonstrating exceptional knowledge and teamwork.
The winning team was guided by the expert supervision
of Dr Yan Naing Soe and Dr Divyangana Kiran Vartak, both esteemed
consultants and trainers within the UTAR Department of Surgery and
Department of Population Medicine. Their mentorship was pivotal in preparing
the students to excel against formidable opponents from various
institutions.
Reflecting on their win, the participants expressed
their gratitude for the experience, highlighting how it deepened their
appreciation for the vast field of surgery. “This victory is not just about
the trophy; it’s a celebration of teamwork and a reminder of the
responsibility we carry as future healthcare professionals,” they shared.
The students acknowledged their supervisors’ unwavering support and
mentorship, which played a crucial role in navigating the complexities of
medical topics.
For the team, this achievement signifies not only a
milestone but also a stepping stone for future challenges. They described
the experience as one that reignited their passion for surgery and
strengthened their commitment to the field.
