Advertising students’ trademark design wins YglWorld’s logo design competition
A trio of UTAR Faculty of Arts and Social Science (FAS) Bachelor of Communication (Honours) Advertising students Chan Ying Hui, Chin Kah Yean, and Clarice Kok Zi Ying were awarded a cash prize of RM1,000 for their presentation of a trademark design for YglWorld’s “Smart Halal Monitoring System” on 22 February 2024 at YglWorld Headquarters, Penang.
Under the guidance of FAS Head of Department of Advertising Dr Nur Afni binti Halil, the team emerged victorious, securing a significant win in the prestigious logo competition organised by YGL Convergence Malaysia Sdn Bhd.
The exceptional creativity and innovation displayed by our students have brought glory to UTAR and showcased our budding artists’ incredible capabilities in the trademark design competition. The competition is designed to push the boundaries of students’ creative thinking and offer them a platform to showcase their talents on a larger stage.
Amidst tough competition, the unique talent of UTAR students stood out as a beacon of creativity. The winning submission, crafted by Chan, Chin, and Kok, captivated the hearts and minds of the judges with its exclusive design, symbolic representation, and aesthetic appeal.
When asked about the uniqueness of their award-winning design, the students explained, “We conceptualised the emblem for Ygl’s ground-breaking Smart Halal Monitoring System. Guided by the project’s clarity in the title, the logo seamlessly integrates the essence of smart technology. Employing a futuristic font and the reliability symbolism of blue, we have crafted a design that exemplifies innovation and technological advancement.”
They added, “The design acknowledges the principles of innovation and adherence to Halal standards, making it a standout representation of Ygl’s forward-thinking approach in product development.”
Sharing their joyous win, on behalf of the team, Dr Afni enthused, “This win not only underscores the remarkable creative skills of UTAR students but also cements our reputation as a hub of artistic excellence. Besides that, it showcases the talent and innovation nurtured within the halls of UTAR to a broader audience.”
On the other hand, UTAR FAS Dean Dr Lee Lai Meng congratulated the team and said, “To celebrate this momentous achievement, UTAR takes pride in our students’ hard work, dedication, and creative talent. This win is a testament to the quality of education and the nurturing environment that UTAR provides, enabling students to excel and shine on a global platform.”
Dr Lee added, “As we bask in the glory of this achievement, UTAR will continue to support and nurture the creative talents of the students. UTAR will keep inspiring and encouraging the students to push the boundaries of innovation and excellence, knowing that the future holds endless possibilities for them to make their mark on the world stage.”
