Silver at ICIILE 2023

UTAR Faculty of Creative Industries (FCI) academic Dr Hooi Chee Mei and her team members, namely Raganeswari Ramasamy, Dr Mariam Mohamad and Dr Mageswaran Sanmugam from Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM), won the Silver award at the International Competition of Immersive Intelligent Learning in Education 2023 (ICIILE 2023). The result was announced on 4 October 2023.

Their winning research project titled “Incorporating Mobile Devices in Narrative Writing Skills: 4C’s to Write Module” utilised Google Classroom to enhance narrative writing skills among 55 secondary students in Penang and Kedah during a 10-week intervention. The study revealed significant improvement in narrative writing for both schools, emphasising the efficacy of mobile devices in fostering main ideas and organisation skills. The team walked away with certificates, medals and cash as their reward.

Organised by the Centre of Instructional Technology and Multimedia (CITM) of USM, ICIILE 2023 aimed to encourage innovation in teaching and learning through immersive technology. The competition attracted participants, including lecturers, researchers, students, and support staff from both domestic and international higher education institutions. The platform provided an opportunity for them to showcase creativity and innovation that can enhance the teaching and learning process.
