UTAR congratulates Assoc Prof Ir ChM Dr Lee Tin Sin from the Lee Kong Chian Faculty of Engineering and Science for winning the prestigious IEM Top Mentors Award 2023 at the grand event of the IEM 65th Annual Dinner & Awards Night on 1 June 2024 by The Institution of Engineers, Malaysia (IEM).

The IEM Top Mentors Award is a significant recognition, celebrating the exceptional contributions of mentors who have dedicated themselves to the professional development of aspiring engineers. Dr Lee’s commitment to nurturing the next generation of engineers is evident in his tireless efforts to guide and support his mentees, helping them achieve their goal of becoming professional engineers. His dedication and passion for mentoring have not only inspired his mentees but have also set a benchmark for excellence within the engineering community.

Dr Lee walked away with a certificate bearing the signature of the IEM President, along with a prestigious plaque. The award was presented by Prof Ir Dr Jeffrey Chiang Choong Luin, the President of the Institution of Engineers (IEM) Malaysia.

Receiving this award underscores Dr Lee’s exceptional mentoring skills and his unwavering dedication to the engineering profession. His contributions have not only enriched the lives of his mentees but have also significantly contributed to the advancement of engineering competency within Malaysia.

The Institution of Engineers, Malaysia (IEM) implemented the Engineering Competency Development (ECD) programme to provide structured training for the IEM Graduate Engineers. The programme aligns with IEM’s Corporate Membership admission rules and includes a minimum three-year on-the-job training period. Under the programme, participants would acquire experience in planning, design, execution, or management under the supervision and mentorship of an IEM ECD Mentor to prepare for the Professional Interview. The progress is evaluated quarterly to ensure continuous improvement and readiness for professional advancement as a professional engineer.
