Mechanical and Mechatronics Engineering students awarded by IMechE, UK

UTAR is thrilled to announce that the Institution of Mechanical Engineers (IMechE), based in the United Kingdom, has recognised the outstanding achievements of two UTAR students, namely Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) Mechanical Engineering student Chong Kai Wen and Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) Mechatronics Engineering student Ong Li Kang.

Chong was honoured with the Frederic Barnes Waldron Best Student Award, which recognised him as the ‘Best Student’ in Mechanical Engineering. He walked away with a Bronze medal and a certificate in recognition of his accomplishments. Meanwhile, Ong was awarded the Best Student Certificate, acknowledging his excellent performance. They were awarded under the University Awards category.

The awards were presented to Chong and Ong on 19 February 2024 by Lee Kong Chian Faculty of Engineering and Science (LKC FES) Head of Department of Mechanical and Material Engineering Assoc Prof Ts Dr Yeo Wei Hong, who was accompanied by LKC FES academic Assoc Prof Dr Rubina Bahar.

The two winners expressed, “Neither of us has ever passed up a chance to participate in competitions. As we are still young, we hope to explore diverse experiences by engaging in various competitions and events. Thanks to that, we have been able to build networks with many industry professionals and expand our knowledge beyond our academic studies.”

“We are pleased that our hard work has been recognised by the institute, thus awarding us these awards. We hope that our journey of learning will not end here but will continue even after we graduate,” Chong and Ong added.
