UTAR students shine at Medics Intervarsity Games 2024

UTAR students delivered an outstanding performance at the Medics Intervarsity Games (MIVG) 2024, held from 20 to 22 September 2024 under AMSA Malaysia in Iskandar Puteri, Johor Bahru. Representing UTAR, the team of six participants competed in various sports and emerged as top contenders, particularly excelling in table tennis, where they secured an impressive haul of three gold medals and one silver medal.

Sam Yuk Siong and Lim Xin Ru secured a gold medal in the Mixed Doubles, while Sam also claimed gold in the Men’s Singles. In the Men’s Doubles, Lau Zhi Zheng teamed up with Sam Yuk Siong to achieve another gold. Additionally, Lim Xin Ru earned a silver medal in the Women’s Singles, rounding off an impressive showing for UTAR in the competition.

The UTAR contingent displayed remarkable talent and determination throughout the event. Their dominant performance in table tennis not only brought pride to the university but also highlighted their ability to compete at a high level in intervarsity sports.

This year’s MIVG, hosted by AMSA Newcastle, gathered students from various disciplines, including Modern Medicine, Traditional Chinese Medicine, Nursing, and recent healthcare graduates. UTAR’s participation in sports like badminton, table tennis, and track and field provided a platform for the students to bond with peers from other universities and strengthen inter-varsity relationships.

The event served as more than just a competition; it was an opportunity for UTAR students to demonstrate their sportsmanship, teamwork, and competitive spirit. Their victories in table tennis were a testament to their dedication and skill, setting a high standard for future intervarsity games.

The AMSA MIVG 2024 brought together future healthcare professionals for an exciting and engaging event, and UTAR students certainly left a lasting mark with their exceptional performance.
