Ng Wei Yean, a Year Two Doctor of Philosophy
(Engineering) student from Lee Kong Chian Faculty of Engineering and
Science, was awarded the Best Presenter Certificate at the 2nd International
Conference of Innovative Design, Manufacturing, and Materials Technology
2024 (ICIDMMT’24). The conference, organised by Universiti Sultan Zainal
Abidin (UniSZA), took place from 24 to 25 August 2024 at UniSZA Gong Badak
Campus in Terengganu, Malaysia.

Ng’s award-winning presentation focused on her research project titled “Enhancing strength and sustainability of cement mortar with green glass waste powder as sand substitute”. Her research addressed the environmental challenge of diminishing natural sand resources by exploring the use of glass waste powder as an alternative material in cement mortar. This innovative approach not only provided a sustainable solution to the global issue of glass waste management but also enhanced the strength and performance of cement mortar, making it a significant contribution to sustainable construction practices.

Reflecting on her achievement, Ng expressed, “The
conference was a valuable opportunity to present my work and receive
constructive feedback from a knowledgeable audience. Furthermore, winning
the Best Presenter Award was a significant milestone, reflecting the quality
of my research. This is a powerful boost to my confidence and motivation. I
am grateful to my supervisor and co-supervisors for their unwavering support
throughout my research journey.”
Ng’s achievement is a testament to her dedication to advancing sustainable engineering practices and her ability to effectively communicate complex research ideas to a diverse audience. Her recognition at ICIDMMT’24 not only highlights her individual excellence but also underscores the importance of innovative research in addressing global environmental challenges.
