20 UTAR Researchers listed among the World’s Top 2% Scientists 2024 by Stanford University

A total of 20 UTAR distinguished researchers are now ranked in Stanford’s World Top 2% of Scientists List for 2024.

In the 2023 Stanford’s World Top 2% Scientists List, 16 UTAR researchers were ranked in the list, marking an increase of additional four researchers who made it into the 2024 list.

UTAR congratulates all the 20 distinguished researchers on their achievements and their commendable contribution to research and publication.

Three academics-cum-researchers were the first in UTAR to be ranked in the 2020 Top 2% Scientists in the world by Stanford University, USA. These researchers were Emeritus Prof Dr Boo Nem Yun @ Mooi Nam Ying from the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences, Assoc Prof Ir Ts Dr Bernard Saw Lip Huat and Assoc Prof Dr Pang Yean Lin from the Lee Kong Chian Faculty of Engineering and Science. These three researchers have consistently been ranked in the Stanford’s World Top 2% Scientists List since 2020.

Prof Boo was ranked for her research publication citation for the subject of pediatrics under the subfields of general and internal medicine for the year 2019, and life time contribution (as career scientist) in pediatrics research up to the year 2020.

Dr Saw was ranked for his research publication citation for the subject of energy under the subfields of mechanical engineering and transport for the year 2019. Dr Pang was ranked for her research publication citation for the subject of general physics and energy for the year 2019.

UTAR is indeed proud of all the researchers’ work and publications, and the university will continue to support its staff in scientific research and R&D initiatives.

Stanford University’s World’s Top 2% Scientists list is a prestigious ranking that highlights the influential researchers across a broad range of scientific fields. Compiled in collaboration with Elsevier and based on data from Scopus, this list serves as a powerful tool for identifying global scientific leaders who have made a significant impact on their respective fields. It draws from a variety of citation metrics, such as the h-index, co-authorship, and adjusted citation counts, to ensure fair and balanced representation of researchers. The list is updated annually, with career-long data and single-year impacts for transparency and current relevance. Being listed among the Top 2% of scientists is a prestigious recognition of a researcher’s contribution to science and research excellence.
