In a prestigious ceremony held at Menara MITI on 17 November 2025, four distinguished members of UTAR were formally presented with certificates by the Academy of Engineering and Technology of the Developing World (AETDEW), reaffirming their roles as AETDEW Fellows. The event took place during the AETDEW Roundtable in conjunction with the ASEAN International Fair for Trade in Services (AIFTIS), underscoring regional collaboration in engineering and technology advancement.

Although Prof Dato’ Ewe was unable to attend, his certificate was received on his behalf by Dr Fok Kuk Fai with prior consent. Each recipient had previously been conferred the AETDEW Fellowship, and the ceremony served as a formal presentation of their official certificates, an important milestone recognising their contributions as thought leaders in engineering development in the Global South.

AETDEW, the Academy of Engineering and Technology for Developing Worlds, is a focused organisation that prioritises networking and capacity building in engineering and technology across the Global South. Its primary mission is to connect professionals, researchers, and institutions to facilitate knowledge sharing, skill development, and collaborative solutions that advance sustainable and inclusive development through appropriate technologies.

The presentation of the Fellow certificates was part of a broader agenda during the AETDEW Roundtable, which aimed to enhance regional cooperation and celebrate contributions in the engineering and technology sectors. A total of seventeen existing AETDEW Fellows and one Honorary Fellow received their certificates during the occasion, which was aligned with AETDEW’s mission to support sustainable advancement through technical excellence.

The event reflected the growing recognition of UTAR’s academic and professional leadership beyond national boundaries. With honourees representing diverse faculties and areas of expertise, the ceremony underscored UTAR’s multi-disciplinary excellence and its contribution to the global advancement of science and technology.
